Fashion & Editorial Retouching

Editorial portrait of a dark-haired woman in a black lace-collared top lying on stone

Editorials, campaigns and lookbooks refined with a careful eye for skin, fabric, colour, shape and the original creative direction.

Fashion and editorial retouching covers lookbooks, editorials and campaign-style shoots. It overlaps with portrait retouching, but the garment matters as much as the person wearing it: fabric texture, colour, creases and fit all need attention, and the whole set has to read as one story.

The portfolio includes studio and location editorials, low-key and colour-led sets, outerwear, knitwear and swimwear, with work on skin, highlights, fabric detail, colour and background clean-up.

What this can include

  • Skin and texture refinement
  • Temporary blemish cleanup
  • Stray-hair cleanup
  • Garment-detail refinement
  • Wrinkle and crease cleanup where appropriate
  • Colour and tonal adjustment
  • Background distraction cleanup
  • Consistency across related images

The creative direction of the shoot is kept: its light, colour palette and mood. Fabric is refined rather than replaced, so weave and texture still read correctly, and creases are cleaned only where they distract from the garment. How much polish suits fashion imagery is discussed in When Does Retouching Become Too Much?

Who this is for

Fashion and editorial photographers and brands producing lookbooks, editorials or campaign-style imagery. It is particularly useful for larger sets, where skin, colour and garment finishing need to match from the first frame to the last.

How the process works

  1. Send your images, a short brief and any references, along with your delivery requirements.
  2. PIX ALTER reviews the images and brief and confirms a realistic timeline and price for that specific project.
  3. The images are retouched to the agreed brief, keeping the character of the original photography.
  4. Finished files are delivered in the agreed format.

Include the mood board or reference images from the shoot, colour references for any garments that must match exactly, and the list of selected frames. If different images need different levels of retouching, note it in the brief. Turnaround, file formats and revisions are covered in the studio FAQ.

Questions about
this service.

What is fashion retouching?
Fashion retouching is the post-production refinement of fashion photography — skin, garment detail, colour and tone — for editorials, lookbooks and campaign-style work.
What is editorial retouching?
Editorial retouching refers to the same kind of work applied specifically to editorial shoots, where keeping the original creative direction and story consistent across the set matters as much as the individual image.
How is fashion retouching different from portrait retouching?
The two overlap — both involve skin and colour work — but fashion and editorial retouching also considers garment detail, fabric and consistency across a whole set of images rather than a single portrait.
Can garment details be refined?
Yes. Garment work can include crease and wrinkle clean-up where appropriate, fabric detail refinement, and colour adjustment so the garment matches its reference. The aim is a well-finished garment that keeps its natural fabric character.
